Dear friends and fans,
Boris and Andy have parted from the band so in many BIG ways it is a goodbye to The Ryde as you all have known it for the last 4 years or so. Jeff (drummer) and myself Tim (lead singer) have decided to continue on. We're in the process of auditioning new players. With the hiring of new players we have asked them to come in with open minds and to put their unique spin on things, as Jeff and I are looking to shift our sound a tad bit to a more modern rock feel. Don't worry though, we will continue to play all the classics.
It has been more than an honour to have been a part of Take Aim and to have shared the stage with Boris and Andy over the last 4-5 years. They are a great couple of dudes and we have so many fantastic memories together.
Stay tuned for more possible big changes to come.
Big Horseshoe gig coming up to top off the year for The Ryde here in Toronto. Want to get in for free? Just email us your name and we'll put you on the guestlist!
It's late... and we're tired. The past three months have been a whirlwind for us. We've traveled roughly 2,000 kms to play in various cities across Ontario, we've participated in a handful of battles, and we've had the privilege of opening for Default. Just when it seemed like things would calm enough to get back to writing new tunes, we were asked to be a part of perhaps the biggest opportunity of the year.
On Thursday, November 12th we'll be playing in an Indie Showcase event. What's that? -you ask. A golden opportunity to play in front of major VIPs from Sony, Universal, RoadRunner, and more. We're looking to make an impact and need your support now more than ever. Here's the plan: you show up at The Opera House with as many friends as you can muster wearing as much RED as you have! Red shirts, red pants, red heels, hell even red wigs!! We have only half an hour on stage to impress, so a sea of red to support The Ryde is important. As a little extra... we're going to pay half the door price just to have you there - mention that you're there to see The Ryde and you pay only $10. That's-a niiiice.
Thursday November 12th @ The Opera House - Meet us there at 8PM
Indie Week is here!!
Bands have been battling around Toronto for months, vying at a chance at the big show. Back in June, we earned our spot in the 2009 Indie Week festival happening next week. This time, we're up against the winners of all previous battles... the creme-de-la-creme, the top-shelf, the upper-deck. It's 100 bands, playing in two cities, in only 4 nights to be the BEST OF THE FEST!
Come see us Thursday, October 8th at The Hideout in Toronto for a night of six awesome bands under one roof. We're on at 10:15... Be there!
Learn the guitar. Heavy on the Eddie Van Halen, light on the Our Lady Peace.
Get into several different bands until you meet a bunch of dudes from Thunder Bay. Join their band. Play 3 years of club gigs.
Sign up for Erie Lake Fest. Drive to Tilsonburg on Friday. Continue south till you come to a hard to find grassy field and begin drinking in aforementioned grassy field. Eat egg salad sandwiches to balance things out.
Wait for the hippies to tire themselves out and when they've fallen over, hit the stage. Completely dismantle all the other bands there and win the opening slot for Default the next night. Drive home at 1:30am, sober but tired. Almost fall asleep 3 times somewhere around Brantford. Keep yourself awake by singing to "Iron Man" and wonder what your life would be like if you were Wayne Gretzky.
Sleep in your parent's basement.
Get up the next morning and call the promoter and ask if the show is still on. Sip your morning coffee as he half heartedly tells you everything is fine. Repress your suspicion that everything is NOT fine. Drive to Tilsonburg AGAIN! Begin drinking in the same grassy field as yesterday and eat crackers and peanut butter.
Get the news that the show is canceled. Canceled? WTF?
Befriend a guy who has nicknamed himself "The Wolfman" and walks around all day shirtless, drinking some kind of green booze in a can and wearing a werewolf mask and hairy gloves. Listen to him as he tells you the story of how he earned $20 the previous night by jumping a chain link fence and landing in a boggy marsh, only because his friends said he wouldn't do it.
Get the news that the show is back on. Throw your head back in laughter at the absurdity of the music "business". Brush the crumbs off your shirt and befriend My Darkest Days so you can use their gear. Play a shortened yet blistering set at Erie Lake Fest! Lose one $80 guitar stand. Get fucked for $350 dollars by someone much smaller and stupider than you.
Hang out back stage when Default finishes their set. Talk to the drummer about nothing at all. Eat BBQ burgers and steal a bottle of Jager from their cooler (sorry guys).
Walk out to the parking lot and collect what empties you can find. Drive home knowing you must certainly be a musician because the best part of your weekend was drinking beer and playing guitar!
Lee’s Palace - Saturday Aug 29, featuring a NEW SONG
It was a great show last night at the Red Rooster for the Y108 Band Slam finals. We may not have won the competition but it was a fun night with lots of great music and the band would like to thank Y108 for having them.
On top of all that, The Ryde is also playing the Bovine Sex Club in Toronto on the night of August 1st, so it will be an awesome double header if they win the competition for the Picnic. It would be awesome to see you and all your friends at both shows that day for a long day of rock and roll!
